Country Blogger Calls Country Fans Racist

The editor-in-chief of a major country music blog just wrote an opinion piece basically accusing most country music fans of being racist because of the backlash last night’s Beyoncé and Dixie Chicks duet received.

It is our opinion that the performance wasn’t actually all that bad, but did not fit or belong in this particular 50th Anniversary CMA Awards show that honored the history of country music. In general, it would’ve been acceptable for most other country awards shows, but in this case, it took valuable airtime (6 minutes) that could’ve been used for another group of legends to get a chance to sing parts of their legendary songs or to allow Dolly Parton to finish her speech.

The backlash has nothing to do with race, it has to do with the fact that Beyonce has displayed music, dancing, and imagery that many have interpreted to be anti-cop, and well, we all know what went down with the Dixie Chicks over the years. The editor-in-chief (that we won’t give free publicity to by naming her or the blog she heads) clearly doesn’t have any knowledge or appreciation for the history of country music and the patriotic values that country music fans stand for.
Are there racists that like country music?  Sure, there’s a few out there.  There are racists of all colors, shapes and sizes that like all kinds of genres of music.  Just as there are some white country fans that are racist against blacks, there are some black rap fans that are racist against whites.  That doesn’t mean that there is a majority of fans that are like that, as this author claims.
Racism is an ugly, archaic trait of humans that should’ve been ridden from society years ago, but the truth is that it still exists.  For this woman to write what she did is as ridiculous as a BET editor-in-chief writing that most rap fans are racist because you hardly see any white’s performing at the BET Awards.
