Tim McGraw is going to play a free show on November 10th for the troops at the US Naval Station Mayport in Jacksonville, FL to celebrate Veterans Day!  The show will be broadcast live on the Pentagon Channel and online at www.timmcgraw.com and http://www.youtube.com/user/timmcgraw starting at 8:45 PM EST, bringing the concert to fans worldwide!

Here is some more info and quotes from the Press Release:

“It’s easy for me to show up and play music to honor the men and women who have the really tough jobs,” said McGraw.  ”To me, it’s just one small thing I can do to help show how much we appreciate what they put on the line and what these families sacrifice every single day. Since we started this program 18 months ago, I have had the privilege of meeting many servicemembers and their families and have heard many inspiring stories.  It’s something I’m proud to do and want to take it as far as we can!”

“It’s an honor for us to partner with Tim McGraw and the Navy to thank our servicemen and women, past and present, and their families,” said Mel Martinez, chairman of JPMorgan Chase in the Southeast U.S. “We are happy to be able to give back through this concert as well as through our firm’s military programs to a community that has given so much to us.”

Naval Station Mayport is one of three Navy bases in the Jacksonville, FL area and home to nearly 5,000 uniformed servicemembers, their families and 2,000 Department of Defense civilian employees. There are more than 1.5 million veterans who call Florida their home.

“On the eve of Veteran’s Day, this concert is a gift and tribute to the brave men and women of our military who have served their country. This is an opportunity to say thank you to our servicemembers and their families who wear the cloth of this great nation and to those who have gone before us defending freedom and democracy around the world,” said Capt. Wes McCall, Naval Station Mayport Commanding Officer. “I extend my heart-felt thanks to Chase and Tim McGraw for choosing Naval Station Mayport as the location to share their time and talents in honor of America’s fighting forces.”

Since McGraw partnered with Chase and Operation Homefront over a year ago to create the HomeFront program, they have awarded more than 70 mortgage-free homes to wounded warriors and military members in need and will give another to a deserving family on Nov. 10.  With one million servicemembers projected to transition out of the military by 2016, the HomeFront program helps returning veterans successfully transition back to civilian life and build a solid foundation for the future. Chase has provided more than 600 mortgage-free homes to military families through its nonprofit partners as part of an initiative to award 1,000 homes to deserving veterans and their families.

Awarding homes is one part of a broader program JPMorgan Chase launched in 2011 aimed at positioning transitioning servicemembers, veterans and their families for successful and happy post-service lives. The bank is a founding member of the 100,000 Jobs Mission, a coalition of 120 leading companies working together to collectively hire 100,000 veterans by 2020. In less than three years, the coalition members have already hired more than 77,000 U.S. military veterans.

McGraw’s latest single, “Southern Girl,” off his current album TWO LANES OF FREEDOM is quickly climbing up the Top 10 on the radio charts and comes on the heels of his 34th career No. one hit.  He recently received three nominations for November’s CMA Awards for his PLATINUM certified No. one single “Highway Don’t Care,” an all-star collaboration with Taylor Swift, featuring Keith Urban on guitar.

Keith Urban brought his “Light the Fuse” tour to the Cruzan Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach on Saturday, October 5th for the final show of the tour.  It had been six years since he had performed in South Florida (Bank Atlantic Center, December 2007), so needless to say the crowd was pretty amped up for this show.

Dustin Lynch got things started with a set that included his hits “She Cranks My Tractor,” “Cowboys and Angels,” and his new single, “Wild in Your Smile.”  The 28-year old may be small in stature, but he is one of the best new voices in country music, and I expect to see him develop into a headlining star one day.  The highlight of his set for me was when he covered David Lee Murphy’s “Dust on the Bottle.”  If you missed this show, you’ll have a chance to see him next month at the Kiss Country Stars and Guitars show at the Seminole Hard Rock Live in Hollywood!

Little Big Town hit the stage next, kicking their set off with “Little White Church.”  One of the most underrated bands in country music, they have finally earned some well deserved respect with several recent award nominations (and wins!) thanks to the success of their Tornado album.  I guess it shouldn’t be a surprise then that most of their set list was comprised of songs from this album.  Besides “Little White Church,” the only songs they did that weren’t from the Tornado album were “Bring it on Home,” a cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain,” a cover of The Oak Ridge Boys’ “Elvira,” and the set-closing “Boondocks.”  From the Tornado album, they played their hits “Pontoon,” “Tornado,” “Your Side of the Bed,” and their current single, “Sober,” as well as other album cuts such as “Pavement Ends” and “Front Porch Swing.”  I am always amazed at how great their voices blend together and how well they harmonize.  They put on a fun show and showed why they are the reigning CMA and ACM Group of the Year!

Normally when a headliner takes the stage, it is after a big intro with huge production value…the lights go down, then there’s flashing lights, pyro, a video, etc…then they come out.  Keith Urban instead came out solo playing a banjo while the house lights were still on, then one by one the rest of the band members came out to join him at the front of the stage.  Once the full band was out, the lights went down and the backdrop fell as they fully went into his first song of the night, “Long Hot Summer.”  He finished his second song, “Sweet Thing,” with a killer guitar solo that got the crowd on it’s feet with a huge ovation.

After playing “Cop Car,” which I expect to be a future single off his new album Fuse, he played “I Told You So” before taking a break to chat with the crowd.  He thanked the crowd for coming out after not playing in South Florida for a few years.  He then got each section (left, center, right, lawn) to yell to see who was loudest, then grabbed a high-powered spotlight to shine on each section.  As he did this, he came across a sign being held up that he tried to read.

He couldn’t read it all, so he invited the woman up on stage so he could read it.

The sign cleverly quoted his album titles, and ended with “How about a hug?”  He obliged, and after hugging her, he offered to take a picture with her with the crowd in the background.  He then signed her sign, capping off an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime experience for the lucky fan.

He continued on with a great set of his biggest hits mixed in with some new music.  Little Big Town joined him on stage for “You Gonna Fly,” then he called Karen Fairchild of Little Big Town back out to join him for his new duet (w/ Miranda Lambert) “We Were Us.”  Dustin Lynch then joined him on stage for “Kiss a Girl” before he made his way back to a secondary stage set up in the last rows of the seats, looking out to the lawn. We were aware that he was going to do this, so we were able to position ourselves right up in front of this stage from the walkway.  He was joined on the stage by his drummer and guitar player to play “Days Go Bye,” “Once in a Lifetime,” and “Better Life.”

As he made his way back to the main stage through the crowd, he rapped Blake Shelton’s “Boys ‘Round Here,” which was a pretty awesome thing to hear.  He then jumped into fun.’s “Some Nights” before finish the montage with the end of “Better Life.”  He finished his main set with “Somebody Like You” with a camera attached to the end of his guitar for a unique vantage point as confetti fell from the sky.

After taking a quick breather, he came out for the encore and sat down at the piano.  He first played REO Speedwagon’s “Keep On Loving You,” then did a beautiful piano solo of “Tonight I Wanna Cry” that had the crowd shining their cell phones.  What an awesome, chilling moment to witness.  He then launched into Bruno Mars’ “Locked Out of Heaven” which turned into the closing song of the night, “You Look Good In My Shirt.”

This was yet another great show on the 2013 Live Nation Mega Ticket lineup.  Keith Urban is one of the most genuine, kind-hearted artists out there and showed it with his warm and friendly demeanor throughout the night.  I really hope we don’t have to wait another six years before seeing him down here again!

The Locked and Reloaded Tour at the Cruzan Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach kicked off with long-haired rockers The Cadillac Three, a trio that’s been friends since childhood.  Despite looking like they’re fresh out of the trailer park, don’t let their looks fool you.  They are talented musicians and put on a good show to get things started.

Even though the average country fan hasn’t heard of them, guitarist and lead vocalist Jaren Johnston has already made strides in the country music world after co-writing Keith Urban’s hit “You Gonna Fly.”

Next up on stage was the Randy Rogers Band.  This popular Texas-based band, while not all that well-known on a national level, are huge stars in the Texas Country Music scene.  Last year’s “One More Sad Song” peaked at #38 on the Country Music charts, marking their biggest national hit to date.  I hope that after getting some national exposure on the Locked and Reloaded Tour that they will emerge as national stars in the footsteps of artists such as the Eli Young Band, Pat Green, Kevin Fowler, and more.  They definitely deserved it after what I saw.

By the time Dierks Bentley took the stage, the last straggling tailgaters had made their way into the venue and were ready to party.  Dierks didn’t disappoint, as he kicked his set off with the party anthem “Am I The Only One.”  His high-energy set rolled through his hits, and reminded me why he is one of my favorite performers.

Before launching into his current single “I Hold On,” he told the story of how he moved to Nashville at the age of 19 to pursue his career in music.  “I Hold On” is in part about how he still has the truck he drove to Nashville in as well as his old guitar that happens to be signed by two of his heroes, George Strait and George Jones.  He then took a break to share a series of photos that showed the progression of his curly hair from curly, to curlier, to curliest…then ended the slideshow with a picture of Miranda Lambert’s husband Blake Shelton from when he had his mullet!

Despite 10 number one hits and 15 top ten hits (as compared to 3 number ones and 8 top ten hits for the headlining Miranda Lambert), Dierks Bentley often gets lost in the shuffle and never seems to get the recognition he deserves in terms of award nominations or headlining status.  He has fun on stage and is very fan friendly…running around, signing autographs, shaking hands, high-fiving…he makes the fans feel like they are a part of his show and did a great job getting the crowd ready for Miranda Lambert!

Dierks Bentley Set List

  • Am I The Only One
  • Free And Easy (Down The Road I Go)
  • 5-1-5-0

Miranda Lambert came out to an electric crowd and kicked her set off with recent hits “Fastest Girl In Town” and “Only Prettier.”  She then slowed it down with “That’s The Way The World Goes ‘Round,” an unreleased song off of her last album Revolution (which was the 2nd of three straight albums of hers to win the ACM Album of the Year Award).  She proceeded to take the crowd on a wonderful ride of emotions that few others can pull off.  One minute she’s got the place rockin’ with songs like “Baggage Claim,” “Mama’s Broken Heart,” and “Gunpowder and Lead,” then the next she’s got the crowd tearing up as she fights her way through the emotional hits “The House That Build Me” and “Over You.”  It was also great to see her play some of her earlier stuff including her debut single, “Me and Charlie Talking” and “New Strings.”

As she was about to begin her current single, “All Kinds of Kinds,” she took a moment to encourage everyone to follow their dreams and be comfortable with who they are.  It was a really touching speech, and the song sends a great message.  The song ended with a huge slow-rotating disco ball that lit the entire venue up, including the lawn.  She closed out her show with an encore of “White Liar” and “Oklahoma Sky.”  Before finishing with “Oklahoma Sky,” she took a moment to talk about the campaign a local fan put together to get her to visit the Big Dog Range Rescue in Wellington, FL.  The campaign worked so well that not only did Miranda visit the shelter, but she also left with a new puppy that she adopted!

There is such a wide variety of adjectives that can be used to describe Miranda Lambert.  Sassy, spunky, sexy, caring, compassionate, fiery, crazy, brave, straightforward, fun, wild, and tender are just a few that come to mind.  Regardless of which one word you would choose to describe her, there is no arguing that her show is an emotional roller coaster that will leave you walking away with nothing but respect for her talent, what she represents, and her place as one of the leading ladies of today’s country music.
