Willie Nelson will be releasing “Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die:  Musing From the Road” on November 13th.  Here’s some information from the Press Release:

Willie Nelson muses about his greatest influences and the things that are most important to him, and celebrates the family, friends, and colleagues who have blessed his remarkable journey. In signature Willie-style, he riffs on everything: music, politics, his home state of Texas, religion, his wife and children, his past relationships, his favorite recreational activity, plus much more. Willie Nelson has touched millions, and none more deeply than his family, friends, and band mates, several of whom share, for the first time, intimate stories about the Red Headed Stranger.

Highlights from ROLL ME UP AND SMOKE ME WHEN I DIE:

  • Tales Willie Never Told: Willie has never been one to bring his personal life to the tabloids, which is why many call him the Red Headed Stranger. But this book offers stories and tidbits of his life that he’s never expressed publically before! Sweet stories, like spending time with his grandchildren, and mischievous stories from his younger years. A true look into the life of Willie Nelson-through Willie himself! No one has ever seen him this candid, and no subject is taboo.
  • Stories from Others: Amazing stories from those who know Willie best-his sister Bobbie, his wife Annie, his children (and grandchildren), and band mates. Many of these stories have never been told before!
  • Photos and Artwork: Never-before seen photos of Willie, his family and friends are scattered throughout, including gorgeous artwork by Willie’s son, Micah.
  • Life in Hawaii: Most of his fans know him as a Texas-grown country man, but they know very little about his life in Hawaii. Here he opens up about life in the 50th State and his Maui tribe. He also shares what it’s like to live in an entirely solar-powered community, and how much that means to him.
  • Brushes with Fame: Before Willie was famous, he was just a man with a dream. He hauled that dream to Nashville where he met some of the most famous singers of all time. Read his stories from his time in Tennessee-like the time Patsy Cline ended up recording “Crazy” after she heard Willie’s recording of it, and when Hank Cochran hired him as a songwriter after hearing him play with Jimmy Day and Buddy Emmons!
  • Outlaw Country: Willie refused to be silenced and censored by the idea of “traditional country.” He became one of the movers and shakers for the outlaw country movement so he, along with other country singers, could be free to sing about exactly what they wanted without fear of censorship. You’ll find exactly what he thought of the traditional Nashville sound.
  • Authentic Voice: Readers will get an authentic feel of the man through his stories and songs. By the end, you’ll feel like you know him personally!

A road journal written in his inimitable, homespun voice and a fitting tribute to America’s greatest traveling bard, ROLL ME UP AND SMOKE ME WHEN I DIE is a deeply personal look into the heart and soul of a unique man and one of the greatest artists of our time, a songwriter and performer whose legacy will endure for generations to come.

Lonestar will be performing the National Anthem this Sunday before the NASCAR Sprint Cup race at the Dover International Speedway in Dover, Delaware.  The performance will air live on ESPN at 2pm eastern.  If you’ll be in attendance, the band will also be performing a full show at 11:30am at the Victory Plaza at the Speedway as they promote their new single, “The Countdown.”

“It’s the countdown to the green flag,” laughs McDONALD. “We all watch racing on Sundays, when we’re not arguing about football.  But to actually be down on the infield on that mile-long track, seeing the Air Force jets rip overhead and all those fans go nuts as their favorite drivers get introduced–it’s going to be special.”
